Job Description
The miner is legally appointed in terms of Regulation 2.9.2 of the Minerals act and is responsible
for ensuring that safe quality work is achieved daily by his/her team. The job entails a proactive
approach to all safe production issues in the workplace and requires effective supervision.
The job holder needs to provide strong leadership, supervision, PLOC in ensuring all legislative,
policies and procedures are fully complied with including, controlling and directing all activities of
subordinates within his/her area of responsibility and as such takes on the role of coach, mentor
and instructor to explain how safe work should be performed in a safe production environment.
The Job holder is responsible to perform safe blasting activities as per standard in order to
produce gold. He/She must oversee the entire production process to ensure that:
- Working areas are accessible and standard working conditions are prevalent
- Sweepings re done s per mine standard
- Broken rock/ore is transported
- The workplace is properly cleaned and prepared for marking and blasting purposes
- Marking is done accurately to mine standards
- Charging up, igniting, and blasting is done correctly to mine standards
- Working are made safe again
- Stopping Supervision points are Limits, Shape of Face, Lead lags, Support, Breaking, Cleaning, Ventilation, Equipment Labor, and all to the operational standard and business plan.
- Development Supervision points are Direction and Grade, Dimensions, Support, Breaking
- Cleaning, Ventilation, Equipment, Labor and all to the operational standard and business plan.
The jobholder is responsible and accountable for the safe execution of tasks by subordinates and
to initiate and implement corrective action where applicable, immediately.
Planning of the job is done with his/her supervisor and co-workers on a daily basis. Communicate
with night shift and day shift daily.
The incumbent executes a large variety of activities and works to strict requirements; this requires
Planning, leading, organising and controlling activities to ensure tasks are focused to achieve
zero harm. He/She creates a safe and efficient work environment in which sub ordinates can
perform to their fullest potential.
Qualifications;-
▪ Grade 10 or Abet 3
▪ Blasting certificate( Hard rock/ metalliferous mines)
▪ Previous mining experience
▪ Language Proficiency
▪ Medical certificate of Fitness
▪ First aid certificate
